First, before we do anything else, we must balance the budget, increase our tax base and reign in spending.

We must stop accepting every new project as the panacea for Peoria. This approach has not worked in the past and it will not work in the future. If we continue with the status quo we will see more of the same and the simple truth is the status quo is not working.

What will work? If we listen to Peoria citizens, invest in core neighborhoods and follow through with vision we will create a city  that attracts people and businesses.

Embrace the Vision and Implement
The Heart of Peoria Plan was created by thousands of Peoria's citizens. It was accepted by the Peoria City Council in principle and then ignored. The plan is a roadmap for investment that will bring prosperity back to the center of our city.  The ideas expressed in this plan must be used as a guide as the City Council makes future land use decisions.

Neighborhood Investment

Reinvestment in core neighborhood infrastructure such as streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, trees and lighting must finally be a priority. Click here to see what happens when cities show they value public space.

Historic Preservation

Our historic building and districts must be preserved so that we are connected to our rich history.  The existence of historic buildings and neighborhoods help to create a city with character and distinguishes us from other cities.

Retention of Small Neighborhood Schools
Small neighborhood schools anchor our neighborhoods and if we close schools to save money in the short term we will see long term negative effects. Beth worked to keep Glen Oak School at its current location and is a proponent of small neighborhood schools. Read the position paper Beth wrote on behalf of the Heart of Peoria Commission detailing the benefits of neighborhood schools which was eventually presented to the City Council, Peoria Park Board and District 150.

Reduction of Sprawl

Beth is a proponent of traditional town planning, mixed used development, and balanced transportation options. She was more than instrumental in helping to advance the four Form Based Code districts and would like to see the Land Development Code strengthened

Environmental Stewardship
